We’re back at the bowling alley. The girls were attending a birthday party and one of the party favors was a water bottle shaped like a bowling pin. So they all put their own names on their pins. This was back when Ash was 6 and signing her name was still a novelty. So much concentration.

So, at this age, food is always on the face. I first healed out some of the more obvious dots of chocolate cake. The original was pretty dark so I increased the exposure and highlights, and decreased the contrast and clarity. I’m still loving messing with the tone curve to make the picture look more matte, so I did that as well. I sharpened the picture and used an adjustment brush to make her eye a little sharper. Here’s the original:

  1. Nice editing. Did you try how it would look with just a slight vignette? Love the composition on this, how Ash’s face is framed by the pin-bottle and the blurred face to the left…perfect example of a so called “bookstand” element to te left of the frame, guiding the viewer directly to her face. Great shot!
