Encased in Ice

Living in the DC area, we got the extremes of each season. Summer would be sweltering and winter, well — the years we lived there, DC went through Snowpocolypse, Snowmageddon, and whatever the snowstorm last winter (2015/2016) was called. Needless to say, it was cold!

Even though I wasn’t happy with the weather, there’s beauty to be found pretty much anywhere, anytime. I looked in my backyard and found these buds encased in ice. They were beautiful. And I knew that once spring came, they would flower into even more beauty.

Even though it looks like I did compose with the rule of thirds in mind, I thought that there was too much negative space. I then healed out the yellowish whatever-it-is in the background because it was distracting. I lowered the highlights and lightened the blacks and shadows. I also made it a little bit warmer. I used the Tone Slider to give it a slight matte look. Here is the original:
